drew this one in a pub, reading about the latest investment shenanigans (loans at minus 0,01% interest) and looking at my table for corresponding “symbols”. Couldn’t find any, so i drew the candle.

“hairstyle” – 21,5 cm x 17,5 cm – pencil and ballpen on paper
started this one without any concept with the horizon trying to express a certain feeling i believed to have. then the male head appeared as a kind of countermeasure. the rest followed step by step in my attempt not to bore myself with predictable configurations.

“self portrait with tree”

in other news: there is a new showreel on my homepage now.

I was in Tallinn from the 15th to the 21th of August. Listened to some live speeches by the Estonian and Icelandic Presidents at the celebration of 20 years of Estonian independence at the Song Festival Grounds.
I met Priit & Olga Pärn with their new child and some of their students.

*
i ripped it accidentally after i wrote it
what does it mean?
peace, love, creativity, achievement. they’re things that are segregated from the part of me i know about. and only through freedom can i gain access to them, and maybe even strength.
but what is freedom?
i did not plan the composition of the words beforehand. i just started with “peace”. then i wrote love and knowledge. creativity. i put in strength and after that freedom. just listening to my feelings. i remembered achievement. my doorbell rang as i was expecting a friend. so while i was finishing writing that word after pushing the button to open the door downstairs, my friend was kind of confused my surname for kontsevich (which is the name of the other maxim, a russian mathematician) and was not sure he was approaching the right door. i had enough time to finish, naturally. only after he arrived and we sat down for a beer and started talking i tried to give him a piece of paper and tore this hastily finished piece almost in two.
so.
you might think that i should have known better and be careful tearing that underlying leaf out of the pad. truth is i didn’t. that’s why knowledge lost almost half an e.
peace and freedom – in that order – were damaged as well.
but love was there it seems. otherwise this wouldn’t have happened. after all, i was trying to give my visitor a premium piece of paper. this is also a good representation of my creative process seeing that creativity, among the others, was left untouched. accidents are an important part of my creative process. creativity works in mysterious ways. hence the separation from knowledge i mentioned. strength i had enough to tear that paper. ha. strength without knowledge and freedom. a confined strength.
and all of this, ladies and gentlemen, is my achievement. a piece of art if you will. post-incompentence. broken creation.
looking at it a little closer you can see that letters e, p, m and after that o were damaged in this process. epmo. according to wikipedia it’s a former military future passenger airport in warsaw, poland. what does that have to do with all of this? but rearranging letters i receive the word poem. you see, this piece of paper, originally just a sheet covered in desperate affirmations, has, by accident, become a piece of poetry in the end. but the other word you get out of epmo is mope. and coincidentally (!), this is just the word which describes my personality better than any other word.
so what is freedom? freedom of speech? the freedom to speak your mind even if what you say may appear absurd or ridiculous to others or to yourself. the freedom to accept your own flaws.
